Thoughts on living in SOMA, San Francisco

It is Sunday morning at 11am. Another beautiful day in the most wonderful City in the World - San Francisco. Christine and I just got back from running errands - car wash, Cash and Carry, Best Buy, etc. While at the Car Wash on Van Ness, we had a chance to talk with a Police Officer who's patrol is in the Tenderloin. The question I had for him was "what are the police doing about the drug sellers/users on 6th St.?" Long story short, it is all about the District Attorney. The DA does not want to throw drug users in jail. So, more violent crime will continue because drug users need money to buy drugs. AND - more losers from the East Bay will continue to venture over the bridge to supply these poor people.

The reason for the blog was this: the officer said he works in the Tenderloin and has friends who work in SOMA (which is where we live). He feels that the areas of: Tenderloin, Union Square, SOMA and Civid Center is over run with drug users and criminals. I was shocked to hear that the Police group SOMA with all those other areas. We purchased and live in a VERY expensive place on Folsom. We feel that the area is not only safe, but also a perfect place to live and work. I was personally saddened to hear that a cop thinks differently. Do others? I want to take pride in our area.

This blog was just a random thought after an interesting conversation. Hopefully, the area will improve (in other peoples minds) when the new Federal Building and SOMA Grand opens this year.
